In 2009 my husband gave me a Movado watch for my birthday, he was upset because I had no idea what Movado was ( I wish I still didn't) because they are fairly expensive watches. Well in 2012, after wearing this watch almost every day since recieving it, the battery finally died.

We did not know any better, so my husband took the back off the watch to see what kind of battery we needed to get to replace it. I took the watch, the back, and the battery and put them all in a baggy. I went into the mall and stopped at the first jewelry store I came to just to see if they had this battery. The lady threw her hands up and said that she could not touch that watch.

I walked down to Kay jewelry store, which is the chian where my husband had purchased it. This lady freaked out too. She said that the only way to get the battery changed or replaced was to send it to Movado and they will replace the battery and reseal the watch. They said the battery would cost about $95 and the resealing would be about another $100.

So a few weeks later we get a call from Kay with the estimate for my watch that my husband had paid $600 for. They (Movado), wanted over $800. to replace the battery, because I used to wear this watch all of the time, it did have a few scratches on the crystal cover over the face and I was fine with them being there, I just wanted the watch to work again. Well they also said there was dust inside the watch the got in there from wearing the watch, which again, why would you own this watch if you were not going to wear it.

So they refuse to just replace the battery and reseal the watch, they want to rebuild this watch completely and charge us over $800. that is not even worth that much. All I wanted was a new battery in my freakin watch and they want to replace every single part of the watch. So Movado is sending the watch back to us in just as many pieces as we sent it to them in, still NOT WORKING...

I Will NEVER RECOMMEND THIS BRAND TO ANYBODY AND I DO NOT EVER WANT ANOTHER MOVADO AGAIN. ... The lady at Kay actually thought we would just buy another of the exact same watch and I asked her why I would want that when I will just have to buy a new one every time the battery dies... she did not understand what I was saying...

If we buy that watch, I will again wear it every day, until the battery dies in another four years, and when we send it away to get the battery changed, it will be scratched again and dust will have gottne inside again and they will try to charge us $800 again for this $600 watch.... so the cycle will just repeat and so will I....WHY ON EARTH WOULD I EVER WEAR ANOTHER MOVADO WATCH.... DO NOT WANT TO BUY, OWN OR WEAR ANOTHER MOVADO...

It really is a shame because I did like the watch, just not the thanks I get for wearing it and attempting to continue wearing it.... NO MORE MOVADO ANYTHING FOR ME!

Apparently they mean the watch opened case during transferring to the Movado factory, I think that what they mentioned about dust inside the watch not because you wearing everyday. Watch was sealed for water resistance and dust.

When you open the case that may dust get into the watch. If you donโ€™t want to clean dust inside just get to jewelry store to replace a battery.I wear all time and swimming no problem.

All of you people that do your own repairs- great! Super!!

Youโ€™re just voiding your warranty to save a few bucks. Read the manual.

Once you open the back all bets are off and all expenses are your responsibility. Period.

you're LYING your *** off

*** - Movado does NOT want that much money to replace a battery. At most its' 90 dollars and that's ONLY if you take it to a jewelery chain store.

a regular jeweler would replacle it for 10 or 15 bucks... youre a troll.

I have MANY movado watches, they are excellent and it cost 30 to 60 bucks as a general range to replace the battery. the original poster is either stupid as a bag of h ammers or an outright liar.

I just declined to have my watch battery replaced because I was quoted $215 from Kay's so I'm pretty sure what she is saying is 100% accurate

Will never purchase another Movado or buy from Jaredโ€™s. They told me Movado had to change battery or I would ruin the seal.

I get it back, cost 85.00 and realized they cracked the face in 2 places and there are dust particles under the face.

Same on them! Never again from either party!

you're an idiot. so you sent it into the manufacturer (first mistake) then somehow during shipping it got broke so you want to blame the company....IDIOT or TROLL ?? which is it?

Have had many Movado watches over the years. Every one strong and sturdy and no issues other than batteries.

You shouldn't have taken it apart. It's not a $100 watch from WalMart (nor a $50k Rolex).

You caused your own problem and want to blame someone. Silly.

Can not thank you enough explaining your experience with your Movado watch that needed just a battery replacement. Thank you again a trillion times.

Received a Movado for my 30th birthday 38 years ago. For many years a local store with a jewelry shop changed the battery for no charge.

(Its a Movado sir, we take care of them) Currently retired I a small southern community and the local watchmaker changes the battery. He is a bit pricey, but lack of competition will do that. He charges about $25 for the Movado, about $15 for my Eddie Bauer and Swiss Army brand.

All are decent watches and do what they are designed to do. Use common sense...get estimates first...

Recd Movado ladies watch as gift few yrs ago. Had 1 battery change (by Movado via Littman Jeweler who sold watch) Kept perfect time.

Never dropped/near water etc. Just went back to get new battery. Hasn't noticed Littman guy wrote 'not keeping time' on ticket and in turn Movado says something wrong w movement + wants to charge $400 to repair!!!?!? I don't think so!

Watch being sent back to me as I post.

Will attempt another place to change battery. But who knows, maybe Movado did something to my watch??

Canโ€™t believe people pay 600 dollars for a watch with a 29.00 movement at esslingers. They even forgot to put the numbers on the dial, lol .

So no if you donโ€™t have a press donโ€™t take off the back. Some movados have twist off backs the require a spaner wrench but not many. The best least expensive back opener is a piece of metal banding with a edge on it.

The spring steel is the best and you wonโ€™t ruin your knife. Guys if you use your good knife you will probably ruin the edge.

Any good watchmaker could have changed your battery for about $10.00 tops, there is noting specialabout it, also Movado in my opinion and I am a watchmaker is the movst overrated brand of watgch in the market, you invest $600 to $800 buying one, even in pristine shape try selling it a year later , you won't even get $100 for it. It is such a rip off, the movements are especially on the Bold, price wise are only $12.95 it is a swiss Ronda movement, the ones that use Swiss ETA movements, the movement does not cost more than $60.00

A total rip off

yeah , You're a LIAR... you can go to any pawn shop with a Movado and get 300 dollars for a lightly used movado.

Movado watches are not a ripoff if you want to own a swiss watch.

you've told LOTS of lies including the lie that you are a "watchmaker" ...really and what is "your brand" of watch... (such ***

There is nothing special about a Movado watch battery. The only thing is that the back has to have a press that doesn't touch the Chrystal.

These sell for about $25 on line. I just had two of my wife's Movado battery's changed at a jewelry store for $5 each and if I had a coupon it would be $3 each.

We have a store called Jared's ad they charge $75 to change the battery.

I had a similar experience with a Movado Bold that lasted a year. Paid $400 to fix a $900 watch.

I later bought a watch cover tool for $1.59 , battery for $2 and a seal for $.99 on ebay and fixed it myself...they are a joke.

Ripoff. Premadonna...

Guest

Love these absurd stories from *** people. Why would you pay more to "fix" a watch when you can buy a new one.

I have Movados since the 80s - unscrew the back - get a real Energizer battery (code on the battery) and replace for $5 give or take. If not it shouldn't cost more than $1 at a REAL jeweler - not a Mall store.

Guest

yup...super easy...just get yourself a good/cheap watch back wrench and that is all you need, plus the battery..like total of ten bucks. and you can change them the rest of your like.

Guest

FYI all you had to do was go on youtube "How to replace Movado battery and gasket". or located certified watch repairperson at high end jeweler. the cost should be $15 - $25.

My barber changes watch batteries since he is also a clockmaker. He charges $5 to $10 including the battery.

I had him do it on my wife's Movado for $10.

It included a Renata 364 Swiss made battery.

I have done my own watches and the "resealing" is simply cleaning the tiny o-ring and lightly lubricating it with silicone gel.

The Renata 364 batteries sell on Amazon for about $8 for a 5 pack including shipping.
